Set of two invitations to the 3 October 2005 investiture ceremony and reception of Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts. Invitation to the investiture, where Roberts took the Judicial Oath, reads in part, »…The Supreme Court of the United States cordially invite you to a special sitting of the Court at which The Honorable John G. Roberts, Jr. will take the oath of office as Chief Justice of the United States…» Both invitations feature an embossed gilt Supreme Court seal at top. Cards measure 5.875» x 4.5», with original Supreme Court envelope included. Near fine condition. 1873 The Goss-Udderzook Tragedy of Deception and Murder Pamphlet First Printing. Measures approximately 5.5″ x 9″. Baltimore Gazette Printers and a total of 59 pages. Goss and Udderzook were brother-in-laws and the devised a scheme to fake the death of Goss to collect the life insurance money. They used a medical school cadaver for the body which was burned. Investigators became suspicious and the Udderzook then killed Goss. The scheme failed and Udderzook was found guilty of murder and was hanged in 1874. Some staining/toning present but binding remains strong. Overall condition is very good for its age.
