This antique vintage auctioneers wooden gavel with a brass end is a unique collectible piece that harks back to the 1940’s-1960’s era. Made in the United States, this gavel reflects the theme of lawyers and legal professionals. While it is not signed, its craftsmanship and historical significance make it a valuable addition to any collection related to legal memorabilia. This may also be considered a tack hammer.
The gavels are from an Auction house that had been in business from the 1940’s to 1990’s. They have three different heads and shapes. One has leather ends for the softer strike and it is 9 inches long. Then there is a solid wood barrel shaped one with wood ends that is 9 5/16 inches long. The last is the smallest and has brass on the ends. It is 8 5/16 inches long.

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE A circa 1960 business file related to the Colorado-New Mexico boundary dispute. Contains several 100s of papers related to publishing a report to the US Supreme Court on the 1958 re-survey of the Boundary (I am not totally clear on this..) Includes working copies of an 8” x 9” “report of the Boundary Commissioner “Part one of Three From Northeastern Corner of New Mexico to the Sangre de Christo Range” Joseph C. Thoma Boundary Commissoner. It appears that there was a Supreme Court court case in 1925 which ordered a certain boundary. Then a survey in 1958 (!!), followed by detailed Reports presented to the Court in 1960. New Mexico v. Colorado, 364 U.S. 296 (1960) New Mexico v. Colorado No. 1, Original Decided October 24, 1960 These files were made for the 1960 reports – They show Gordon Ainsworth Company of South Deerfield Massachusetts preparing the reports, including managing the printing… There are 11 file folders. The work done was costly – $35,000 per one estimate (about 1/3 was printing). These may be junk…. or they may have some value !! I just don’t know, but instead of discarding them I have organized and labelled for posting here. D59-32 file.
