In 1831, Jackson appointed Taney as bothAttorney General (1831-1833) andacting Secretary of War before naming himSecretary of the Treasury on Sept. 23, 1833. Taney served until his death in 1864. Worn and soiled.
No place or date butprobably Frederick, Maryland, 1801-1810. In 1806, he married Anne Key, sister of his fellow law student, Francis Scott Key. Active in his law practice and politics, Taney ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 1814 but was elected to the Maryland State Senate in 1816.
